Description
Typical scene in the backstreets of Venice. I can imagine the story behind this scene, the overly endowed woman with the red dress living with the small statured gondolier; they are poor but in love and that gets them through the day to day stress of living in Venice. She barely has time to do the laundry since she also works part time as a guide at world reknown art museum and he works the canal by day and is a waiter by night.

This is such a beautiful piece! The colors are marvelous and the warmth from the sun leaps off the walls of the building. It takes me right back to Venezia. (By the way, thanks for the tip on making my photographs easily viewed)

There's something about clothes hanging on the line that is very charming. This is beautifully done.

This could be one of my most favorite works of yours. Your shadow work is great and I love the hint of motion you have achieved with the clothes on the line. Great work and thank you for commenting on my paintings. It is always great to get feedback from someone who has your amazing talent.

Thank you Mary Ellen, your works are really first rate. The way you transform the viewer directly into the scene as a participant and not merely an observer is a difficult thing to do. I found Italy to be one large work of art. Iris is an artist herself and was quite pleased.

Hello Mary Ellen! How are you? I love this painting. It's so lively and full of energy. I like the slant of the voile curtains in the right hand window. I can feel a slight breeze moving the clothes on the line on a hot sunny afternoon in Venezia. Somewhere I can hear a little dog barking and a woman calling her neighbour in the apartment above. Brilliant atmosphere and fabulous details. Love it!
